NWAC & Under Armour Baseball Athletes of the Week - Week 5
2019-04-23 15:12:20
JACKSON HOLSTAD
SOPHOMORE • RIGHT FIELDER
Jackson Holstad, Central HS, Monmouth, OR.
In a 3-win week for the Storm, Holstad went 9/17 with 2 doubles and 2 home runs against South Region opponents Lane and Clark. He also drove in 8 runs and scored 8 on his own to help Chemeketa improve to 21-12 on the year.
"Jackson has been a consistent presence in our order all year and a catalyst for our success," said Storm head coach JJ Mascolo. "He is a very multidimensional player and is one of the toughest outs in our league. He has become a very good outfielder and an exceptional base runner being 15 of 16 on stolen bases. With his power/speed combo he’s one of the most versatile players in our league."
NWAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK - APRIL 23
Dawson Day, Centennial HS, Gresham, OR.
Day spun an impressive 6-0 victory over a strong 5th-ranked Linn-Benton club to help Mt. Hood move into 2nd place in the South. Day went 6 innings allowing only 1 hit while striking out 14 of 24 batters he faced. Offensively, the lefty also went 8 for 20 at the plate with 4 extra base hits.
"Dawson's performance against LBCC was one of the most dominant I have seen in a while," exclaimed Saints head coach Bryan Donohue. "14 strikeouts in 6 innings of work against a quality lineup doesn't happen very often. One of the greatest aspects of his outing was the amount of tough battles that Linn Benton's hitters gave him in big situations, but Dawson found a way to get the job done every time he needed to.
NOTE: Vullo Bat Company, based in Mead, Washington, is awarding a Vullo bat engraved with the student athlete's name to each NWAC Baseball and Softball Batter of the Week.
